Throughout the course of their lives, most people will go through some form of traumatic physical or emotional incident. In many cases, recovering from these will require some form of rehabilitation therapy. There can be rehab in hospital, private practices, or even in someone’s home. There are several forms of therapy that are among the most common:

Physical Therapy

The first type of common therapy is physical therapy. Physical therapy is a form of therapy that takes place to help someone recover from a surgery or build back up strength that has been lost over time. In many cases, therapy will take place in hospital and in therapy gyms, but many people are able to take advantage of home health where a therapist will come straight to their homes. Physical therapy revolves around strengthening specific body parts, such as knees, hips, and other specific muscle or joint groups. The process of going through physical therapy can take several months and success will vary from one person to the next.


Another common form of therapy is psychoanalytic therapy. Emotional stress is something that could have a devastating impact on someone’s life. It can even alter the way that someone thinks and perceives the world. As this can be very damaging, people that are struggling with emotional stress are encouraged to receive this type of therapy, which will help them deal with their emotional issues and begin to move forward with their lives. For these types of therapy, having family involvement is very important in order to ensure long-term success.

Occupational Therapy

The third common type of rehabilitation therapy is occupational therapy. This form of therapy revolves around helping people recover by teaching them how to handle standard life tasks. This type of therapy is generally largely physical, but can include an emotional component as well. If someone has lost a specific function in their life, the therapist will teach them how to move on without it going forward. This is ideal for people that have suffered from a stroke or are dealing with a sudden level of paralysis and have to find a new way to cope with the new daily challenges that they are faced with.
