Rehabilitation

The Multiple Layers of Rehab

Modern alcohol and drug dependency programs tend to take a multilayered approach to providing an affected person with treatments. Since addiction is such a complex problem, facilitators have begun to attack it from multiple angles. People who have formed habits with street drugs and other harmful substances can now have more faith that a short-term stint in a rehab facility will end with an enhanced and more purified lifestyle. Modern rehabilitation centers provide treatment in stages. The stages include the following:

Detoxification

 Rehabilitation

Detoxification is the first step a person takes after acknowledgment and submission. The facility will provide a warm, friendly and serene environment in which the client can spend some time away from the addiction culprit. During this time, staff members in the facility will give the client the utmost moral support and care. Detox is a hurdle that every addict must conquer. Once the body and mind regenerate and no longer crave the substance, the affected person can enter the next stage of treatment. Detox can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Counseling

The second stage of treatment deals with reshaping the thought processes, boosting the self-esteem, and teaching the addict how to replace destructive behaviors with constructive behaviors. A counselor or therapist will take an internal journey with the addict to find the root of the problem. People become addicted to street drugs for a wide variety of reasons. One of the main causes of addictive behaviors is mental disorders. Another cause for such actions could be environmental factors such as childhood or adult abuse. Some people have a genetic predisposition to developing addictions, and they unfortunately came across an addictive substance. The role of a counselor in this stage is to help the person find his or her weakness, and then teach that person how to be stronger.

Various Therapies

Part of changing one’s life is participating in activities that strengthen the mind, body and soul. Many people who suffer from drug addictions miss activities that they used to enjoy. A rehab facility might incorporate a type of therapy that involves dancing, art, traveling, fishing, or other creative or intellectual activities. The key to varied therapies is to fill the addict’s soul with alternatives to craving that artificial happiness.

Any person who has a problem with drugs or alcohol may contact a nearby facility and ask about the recovery program agenda. Millions of people succeed with inpatient rehab every year.
